List of the Largest Banks in Indonesia in terms of Assets

During the first two months, almost 10 major banks in Indonesia posted asset growth. Based on Bisnis’ investigation, there are three banks that experienced a contraction in total assets, namely BTN (BBTN), Panin Bank (PNBN), and Bank Danamon (BDMN). Others, BRI (BBRI), Mandiri (BMRI), BCA (BBCA), BNI (BBNI), CIMB Niaga (BNGA), BSI (BRIS), and OCBC NISP (NISP) posted double-digit growth.

During the first two months, almost 10 major banks in Indonesia posted asset growth. Based on Bisnis’ investigation, there are three banks that experienced a contraction in total assets, namely BTN (BBTN), Panin Bank (PNBN), and Bank Danamon (BDMN). Others, BRI (BBRI), Mandiri (BMRI), BCA (BBCA), BNI (BBNI), CIMB Niaga (BNGA), BSI (BRIS), and OCBC NISP (NISP) posted double-digit growth.

The following is a list of the asset performance of the 10 largest banks in Indonesia as of February 2022:

1. BRI

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBRI) is the bank with the largest number of assets in Indonesia. The company codenamed BBRI has assets of Rp1,527 trillion as of February 2022. This value grew 14 percent year-on-year (yoy) compared to the February 2021 period, which was Rp1,355 trillion.

2. Mandiri

Still owned by state-owned banks, the second largest asset is PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (BMRI) of Rp. 1,350 trillion as of February 2022. When compared to the same period in 2020, BMRI’s assets grew 10 percent yoy from Rp. 1,225 trillion.

3. BCA

PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BBCA) ranks third with the largest number of assets owned, amounting to Rp1,221 trillion. The largest private banking company in Indonesia has an asset growth of 15 percent yoy from the February 2021 period, which is IDR 1,064 trillion.

4. BNI

Furthermore, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBNI) is the fourth largest bank by assets in Indonesia. BBNI’s assets grew 13 percent yoy, from IDR 798.56 trillion in the position in February 2021 to now IDR 904.96 trillion as of February 2022.

5. BTN

The fifth position is occupied by PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk. (BBTN) which has total assets of Rp363.39 trillion. Despite being included in the list of the top 10 banks with the largest assets, assets owned by BBTN experienced a slight decline of 1 percent yoy, from the February 2021 period of IDR 365.77 trillion.

6. CIMB Niaga

Then, there is PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk. (BNGA) is in the sixth position of the bank with the largest assets in Indonesia as of February 2022. BNGA has assets of IDR 307.59 trillion. These assets rose 13 percent yoy, from the previous Rp271.61 trillion.

7. BSI

With the merger, PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk. (BRIS) managed to enter the list of the top 10 banks with the largest assets, which is in seventh place in the national banking system. As of February 2022, BSI is recorded to have assets of IDR 269.16 trillion, up 14 percent yoy.

8. OCBC NISP

Then, the eighth position with the largest assets was held by PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk. (NISP) which managed to record assets of Rp229.52 trillion as of February 2022. That value grew 10 percent yoy, from the February 2021 period of Rp209.49 trillion.

9. Bank Panin

PT Bank Pan Indonesia Tbk. (PNBN) has assets of IDR 182.78 trillion as of February 2022. Assets owned by Bank Panin decreased 6 percent yoy from the February 2021 period of IDR 193.75 trillion.

10. Bank Danamon

Lastly, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk. (BDMN) is the tenth largest bank by assets in Indonesia. As of February 2022, Bank Danamon’s assets were recorded at Rp. 179.82 trillion, down 1 percent yoy from the previous Rp. 181.27 trillion in February 2021.
